Matthew 9:16-17 NIV
[16] “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. [17] Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
In this japa(migration) era a lot of content creators have made fortunes off creating migration contents as most Nigerians are either relocating or planning to relocate.
If we're being honest out of every 10 friends or family we've heard at least 8 of them speaking enthusiastically about migrating so this isn't news to any of us now is it?
But one thing that caught my eye in recent times about this Japa virtual content is the number of views they get per post. I.e "How i relocated to Canada = 200k views in 6days from an account with less than 1k subscribers Ahhhh!! What can they possibly be saying or doing to get that much views?
Well in each video i have watched so far I've come to discover that their core focus is educating you on how to leave your Nigerian lifestyle and cleave to say your Canadian or British lifestyle depending on your choice country.
You cannot take your gragra(rough and rugged) Nigerian lifestyle abroad, you'll be mocked at. Nigeria is like a Zoo and other countries can't relate, the way and manner at which you coped in Nigeria would be totally different from your new Country.
The kind of clothes you wore or even the food you ate is totally different from your new, this is where culture shock comes in.. Your old cannot fit into your new, you would have to level up in thinking and behaviour to fit in cause they have a working system where you're headed but you don't where you're coming from. At the end of the day you would have a lot of unlearning and relearning to do, this is what generates all the plenty views which translates into money cause everyone wants to be fully abreast on how life abroad works.
The kingdom that Christ brought to ancient Israel can be likened to migrating to foreign countries in recent times. The only difference is Jesus' relocation wasn't geographical. He spoke to the Israelites about migrating from old stressful laws to the new stressfree laws, more like come to the greener pastures of God's kingdom leaving the struggle part behind. Having understood this now let's go to work!!
In ancient times the Israelites were governed by the laws of Moses which they had to duly observe in order to be in right standing with the Lord. These laws were over 600 in number and of course people were really struggling to observe all the thou shall not this and thou shall not that.
There's this phrase that says *It's hard to convince monkeys that strawberries are better than bananas* It was easier to get a camel through the eye of the needle than it was to pass new laws to these people.
Everything Jesus christ did seemed alien to them as he seemed to be defying the laws of Moses at every given opportunity. So his disciples throws the question at him: read the whole chapter for a broader context.
Brethren for the blessing you have been praying for you're going to need a new wine skin for it. New wineskin could mean character, mindset, behavioural patterns, new environment, change of friendship cycles, breaking out of generational curses, upgrading your qualifications excetra excetra.
Your old mindset or ways might be the reason you haven't gotten that which you're praying for yet ever thought of that?
God is not mean to pour in a blessing you do not have enough room to receive in your current state.
Your character cannot accommodate the answers to the prayers you're expecting, there has to be an upgrade for it to happen.
Several times in scripture you'll hear God say to his servants "Come up thither" this is because there's a standard expected for you before you can obtain the promise.
Jesus Christ said "only the babes can inherit the kingdom of God" babes in this context is about our heart posture than it is about children.
Pretty sure you are conversant with the phrase "new levels new devils"?
For every blessing you receive more is expected from you(To whom much is given much is expected) Yesterday's mindset cannot tide you through tomorrow's storms
If you do not have the qualification needed for certain opened doors then there's no outpouring of God's wine(blessings/promises) upon you.
Same way you need a certain amount of money to relocate and maintain a stable lifestyle in your new city for at least six months, in case you are unable to secure a job sooner. Failure to prove you have the necessary means of doing so would lead to your Visa being declined.
When you migrate to a new city cost of living skyrockets, Yes it does!! You start paying rents monthly and it's most times higher than what you would pay in Nigeria yearly. You need to keep several jobs to keep things running smoothly and this is a lot of work compared to all you had to do in Nigeria.
For that new level you get new devils and if you're not prepared you would find yourself in a situation you didn't plan for. Mortgages driving you insane, family making excessive demands back home, bills piling up on you, people on social media demanding you do giveaways, account balance beeping red, depression keeping company with you, the bar being your frequent place of recreation and much more..
I always tell people i counsel to be careful what they pray for. Be sure you can afford what you're ordering before placing that order..
The good thing about God is, he won't give you more than you can handle, so if you haven't received it yet despite your incessant prayer and fasting? Go to God and ask him to show you were you need to work on. Ask him to fix you for the promise, ask him to break and remould you into the person your next level requires.
It clearly states in his word that if you pour the new wine into old wineskins it'll burst and the wine would run out. Nobody wants to attain a blessing/promise they can't retain or remain in.
Nobody enjoys saying *i get am before*
You do not wish to japa(relocate) only to japada(return) with nothing but fake British accent to show for it when we all know you traveled to China do you??
Coming back home to drink garri and drag danfo with the people you left behind. Feeding us tales by moonlight about how the airline lost your luggage with gifts in it when you were clearly deported.
No!!! We want to last long and enjoy what God has given to us, we want to build houses and set up trust funds back home should we ever think of returning.
If your end goal is to retain and remain then why not do the work so you don't have to do the work? A stitch in time saves nine.
In Jesus' words: there are 12hrs in a day to do the work which has been allocated to us, for a time cometh when no man can work.
The best time to prepare for God's kingdom coming into your life was yesterday, the next best time is today....
Shalom!!
