Verse of the day:
James 5:17-18 NIV
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
When we were first introduced to this scripture in church, we were told it was about signs and wonders performed by a certain powerful man who graced the surface of this earth over some 2000 plus years ago.
This led us to go in search of mighty men of God who people perceived could perform signs and wonders.
Jesus when He lived next door to us humans made reference to how powerful Elijah was. So why would we think ourselves a match for Elijah's anointing?
Someone who called down fire like Sango Olukoso(god of thunder)in the Yoruba land(a tribe in Nigeria)?
There's certainly no way an ordinary me can do what Elijah did in his time we think to ourselves.
In modern times, we Christians have made it a habit to go in search of Men of God we assume to be more powerful than us. We believe these people have God's direct line and we don't, one phone call and God is answering speedily. Don't get me wrong, grace differs and some Spiritual Leaders who have mastered the art of consecration to God do have access to spiritual dimensions and divine backing that most of us could only dream of. This is because they are bold enough to pay the huge price of sacrifice for their anointing, but today's verse is not about them.
So what does this verse really speak of?
"Today's scripture is about the power of your words as a devoted believer. It sheds more light on our ability to bind and lose things both in heaven and also on earth."
What if i told you just like Elijah you too can call down fire from Heaven(literally)?
What if i told you with the power of your words you can alter the course of your life and perform deliverances for yourself at the comfort of your home?
One of the reason the Holy Spirit is on earth today is to fulfil Christ's prophecy when which says "greater works than i did shall ye do"
It is Jesus's wish for us to out-do him,
Jesus is not some Igbo businessman whom you served under but still gets very irritated when they see you succeed more than them.
Or like some team leads in offices who can't bear to see you take credit for a presentation that earned the company a fat pay check. He does wish for us to do surpass all his achievements.
The Holy Spirit in us is the same spirit at work in those powerful men of God(the legit ones) we run to for miracle. He is the same spirit that was at work in Elijah and the same Spirit that can be at work in you if you let Him.
Our words are so powerful we are told, very powerful because it is the seed of our existence today, but words aren't as powerful without the backing of the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of God doesn't respond unless He sees faith in you. Faith is the currency with which we purchase divine grace, help, favour, breakthroughs etcetera.
Here are three things that we must do to change an unpleasant situation in our lives
1: The Power of Holy Spirit: immerse yourself in learning about the power and function of the Holy Spirit. Get submitted to him totally, i mean it's the God you know you can call on to empower you..
2: Faith in God trusting his ability to do what you're praying for.
3: Consecration: (Being set apart for God) This can be done via fasting and prayer, letting go of old habits, going on personal retreats/sabbatical, in-depth study of the word of God etc..
If you can do these aforementioned things, Then you're own your way to creating your very own signs and wonders.
