And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Final part:
Familiar with the phrase "two is company but three is a crowd?" We use this sentence mostly when we don't want to share what we have with someone else. I mean we live in a greedy world don't we? Always looking out for ourselves not minding if the other person drowns, so long as I'm comfortable they say the world can burn if it wants to.
Then there are some who uses this phrase to express dominance over a particular territory, keeping it safe from mobs and thieves. More like a *Military zone keep off* signpost. Let's say the former are likened to the foolish virgins, while the latter are the wise virgns.
Today we are flipping this phrase upside down: Three is a solid team not a crowd.
The number three in the Bible symbolises the Holy trinity(God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost) Which represents unity and Power.
It can also be used interchangeably with the word Holistic(Whole in every way possible)
When covenants were made in ancient times there must be at least one witness before the bond can be recognised as legal, even in court marriages today you must have at least one witness before both parties can be unified. So three represents total unity or solid bond hence the writer of Ecclesiastics saying a cord of three strands is not easily broken.
What does the term a three fold cord mean?
Before a man presents a bride to his people, He must have passed the unification test before the original institutor of marriage *GOD*. Every other thing is secondary i dare say.
We humans are like a pauper who breaks into a house belonging to a wealthy man, steals his gold kitchenwares only to use them in working on our farm lands. He doesn't even know what he stole, the worth of it or even it's uses. You abuse what you have no knowledge about.
This is why i say the real marriage is between a man, his wife and God, the wedding ceremony is you showing yourself to the Priest(calling your friends and family to come rejoice with you for what the Lord has done) anything other than this can be likened to the man who stole a gold utensil and is using it for the wrong thing.
Now how do you bring God into your union or present a bride to him?
Hmmmm!!! If you do not know God before marriage You will CERTAINLY know him after marriage and i don't mean this as nicely as i say it.
See God is like an architect, you can't call or complain to him about a building he didn't handle never!! Same way you can't go to GTBank to complain about the problems you're having with Access Bank(wetin concern agbero with overload?) It is the marriage He endorsed that you can call him to defend when war strikes. I said that to say this; May marriage not be the reason you look for God because you're not sure the god you might find. If you're single you have a high chance of building a relationship with God now because the storms of life always sets in. It's best you know someone when things are calm and smooth than when things are rough and tough. Then they'll be so many voices in your head and you can't be sure which is yours, the enemy's or God's.
Back to the topic at hand:
There's something called free will when it comes to picking a spouse, God doesn't concern himself with picking a spouse for 99% of his creations, the remaining 1% are people who he has consecrated to do his will through their marriage. This means everyone of you falling for the Kingdom spouse lies being spread by false prophets telling you God is sending your kingdom spouse to you in July, God has one man kept somewhere for you are being brainwashed.
So how do you present your spouse to God? I would like to believe you have an existing relationship with God cause if you don't, please don't bother presenting anybody yet, go to God in fellowship first so as not to miss it in marriage. Build a relationship with God and get to know his personality, his voice and His will for your life. It is in knowing his will for you that you find your why you are here and what you were sent to do, this in turn helps you with the template you need in picking the right spouse for you, One who would partner with you on your journey and not sabotage your destiny.
You would never get a complete package(an already made person could be in term of character etc), all you'll get are raw materials that you and God will work closely with to build into the person you need for the journey.
Any god who gives you finished product is not the creator,as God always wants you in on the creation process so when it goes bad, you now where and how to fix it.
Having picked a few prospects, God through the way he communicates with you assists with cues on how to know the one who is best suitable for you(Read Esther 1 & 2 for more context)
Note: He doesn't pick for you, He only assists in picking the best option for you through the aid of his foresight.
This also isn't an excuse to be romantically involved with these people fornicating and triple dating all over the place just to find the right one . This is a topic for another time.
By doing all of these with him, you have unknown to you invited him into your union with this prospective spouse.
While you're busy with him fixing up your home(internal unity) See previous episodes for more, He is gradually becoming a part of your union. He is the foundation of it if you haven't noticed by now, in fact he is the architect of the entire structure.
When the building has gotten to His desired state(Home fully built) Then a covenant is formed between both souls with God in the middle. This covenant is an abstract one that sees God covering this union with his glory,grace and protection, He places his seal of authority over this marriage and makes it resistant to the attacks of external bodies, whether spiritual or physical.
It is at this point that He gives the go ahead for you both to go show yourselves to the Priest (Getting married physically)
So contrary to what we believe, a marriage doesn't take place when you both have a wedding but when God comes in-between your union with this person and places his seal of aproval on it. This often happens before honeymoon sex not after,seeing as most married couples have been physically intimate before their wedding night anyway.
As for the believer? Your first night together physically is God's own wedding for you both, it's a form of worship given to him where He in-turn pours out his blessings upon your union(more like gift giving time).
This is what it means to be equally yoked,
This is what makes a strand of three folds uneasily broken,
Lastly this is the ideal concept of marriage by God's standard.
