Diary Of a Naija Christian Girl

Episode 2: Let me tell you a little about myself; I was born into a family of six, my Dad, Mum and three other siblings asides myself. I am the first of four children.  Born to a Ghanaian Dad (Anan Agyenim) from Takoradi in Ghana and a Nigerian Mum (Morenikeji Adeyanju) from Elekuro in Ibadan Oyo state Nigeria.  My Dad hailed from a wealthy Ghanaian family, the Agyenim family of Takoradi. Fortune smiled on them when gold was discovered at their farm land in kumasi. My grandfather was a textile merchant who majored in import and export of Kente(Ghanaian traditional fabric) gold accessories,Nigerian attires (Adire and aso-oke) between the British West African countries and some Francophone Countries nearby.  My Dad is the fourth son of ten children born to his father by three different women, his Mum being the last and favourite wife. She was close to him and at such went with him on most of his business trips(more like his personal handbag)  My dad had his...

Part 3: HOW TO BE ONE AT HEART Sometime ago i and a friend walked into a local restaurant to have Abula(A Nigerian cuisine belonging to a tribe in the western part of the country) While we were on a very long queue that had us standing in a stuffy environment with various kinds of bodily diffusers saturating the air, it finally got to our turn after about 35mins of waiting. As soon as we began placing our orders we heard a loud voice yelling from down the hall! The cashier i presume was screaming at the top of his voice to the bewilderment of the customers on queue and the ones already devouring their meals. "Mi ni gba!! Oti pe ti mo tin so fun yin! O ma se bi eni ti o l'opolo emi ni oga e ni bi bayi! Oga ni mo je si yin, ma pariwo mo mi leti mo"(i won't accept your misdemeanor today, i have given you countless warnings but you refused to heed. You behave like a sensless person. I stand as a leader over you in this firm)  He went on ranting disturbing what...

Memory Verse With Explanation

‭Daniel 2:33-34 NIV‬ [33] its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. [34] While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. Part 2: BEING LIKE-MINDED King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a giant statue crushed down by a rock from above, needed someone to interpret it and as always the Astrologers,Magicians and Diviners in his time couldn't until Daniel stepped in.  I know by now you're wondering what has this scripture got to do with a marriage series? hold your horses, I'll break it down in a bit. Let's take marriage to be a Building, we have the foundation, the pillars and the structure itself.  By now we all know the foundation plays a crucial part in the durability and stability of the house, If you don't well now you do. A house built on bad foundation cannot stand the test of time when storm strikes.  Jesus in one of his sermons said: ...

Memory Verse With Explanation

Genesis 2:24 EASY‬ Because of this, when a man marries, he leaves his father and his mother. Instead, God joins the man and his wife together. The two people become as one body. We've heard this scripture quoted a million times by marriage counsellors or Pastors at wedding ceremonies, so much so that we can quote it word for word.  Something about this scripture gives us butterflies in our bellies and sends a tingly sensation down our spines as females if you know what i mean *smiles sheepishly* For the men it is a license to claim ownership over his wife's body and control her entire life, for a woman it is unrestricted access to his resources, exclusive rights to his body and pull him away from his family shenanigans to hers and hers only. We were told the first thing a man has to acquire before getting a wife is a house, move out of his family's and be self sufficient.  Kissing goodbye to his days on the streets, changing his circle and getting indoctrinated ...

Memory Verse With Explanation

Verse of the day:  James 5:17-18 NIV‬ Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. When we were first introduced to this scripture in church, we were told it was about signs and wonders performed by a certain powerful man who graced the surface of this earth over some 2000 plus years ago. This led us to go in search of mighty men of God who people perceived could perform signs and wonders. Jesus when He lived next door to us humans made reference to how powerful Elijah was. So why would we think ourselves a match for Elijah's anointing? Someone who called down fire like Sango Olukoso(god of thunder)in the Yoruba land(a tribe in Nigeria)?  There's certainly no way an ordinary me can do what Elijah did in his time we think to ourselves. In modern times, we Christians have made it a habit to go in search...

Memory Verse With Explanation

Scripture:James 5:16 NIV‬ Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. When i first read this scripture in 2021 i thought God wanted me to run off to my friends and tell them every bad thing that i did or I'd done to hurt them or someone else in my entire life.. And my! You guessed right i acted upon my puny thinking *sobs*  I used this scripture as an excuse to vent to all and sundry, with the hope that I'd be free afterwards. I only ended up exposing what i ought to have kept a secret to people who went and ratted me out.  I did learn, but i learnt the hard way. Now what does James 5:16 truly mean? What has the Holy Spirit to say about this scripture? Let's unpack this shall we? In ancient times, the early church had a tightly knitted community where they broke bread together frequently.  They didn't have physically erected structures called church buildings like...

Memory Verses With Explanation

Key scripture: Acts 12:1-11  At what point did you realise you were sitting right in the middle of a fulfilled promise? God's promises are seldom what we imagine them to be. Like scripture says; "my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are my ways your ways".. Our idea of the promise is often different from the reality of it. Case in point: the Israelites idea of bread from Heaven in the wilderness, being Manna (a whitish substance) which they had to cook themselves before consuming... I was scruffling through my old books and stumbled upon a journal where i wrote down prophecies and teachings, took it out and started going through the notes and realized so many prophecies given me had been fulfilled and i didn't even realize it.  I was so preoccupied with the "What Next's" of life that i couldn't see the different areas at which God had moved in my life already. So many miracles and encounters go unnoticed all cause we have our eyes set on our own f...
